So I sit and reflect upon 2011, and the wonderful voyage it is taking me one.
Two weeks ago I spent the weekend in Burlington, studying under Douglas Brooks, a wonderful yoga scholar. It was a truly profound weekend of so much learning and digesting. I'm realizing there truly can be no such thing as a yoga master. Yoga is a practice that is so different for each individual, but brings us closer to realizing that although we are different, we really are not seperate. We are all interconnected, but our individuals life's cannot not be compared to others, even your own sibling. It in the difference where we learn about ourselves, but not become seperate. That is when our ego takes over. We don't want that because then we push ourselves away from the feeling of connection to the world around us. There is so much being processed in my head and the workshop was 2 weeks ago. It is blending and interacting with my knowledge so far of yoga philosophy.
An update on my life. I'm really come to accept the gypsy blood that exist inside me. My grandmother was an actually Gypsy, and I have realized my life is truly a reflection of that heritage. I am once again moving. . .this time though with a lease. A promise to stay in one home for 1 year. I absolutely LOVE living on my own, and having my own space, but I truly felt like I was lacking connection. I found myself back facebook chat talking to people, on skype more, and talking on the phone. As much I do like my own space, I am a community person at heart. I like being around people. I like having someone to share the kitchen with, and having friends over and getting to know different people.
My friend Fontane and I have decided to move in together. I have known her for 10 years. We spent highschool acting together, and so happened to have both gone to York. The universe didn't not keep us a part as we so often ran into each other on the 196 bus to York. When I came back in 2009 from my Yoga Teacher Training, Fontane was in full support coming to a yoga class, talking about her practice, and even then in the summer of 2010 coming to my yoga in the park. She has become a dedicated yogi of 3 years, and has stuck a great practice! I realized having friends from your past that support your practice is so important. So we decided that we would make good roommates. We both have the same interests, enjoy being social and enjoying creating in the kitchen. I think the biggest thing is that so far we are having great communication which is so important when living together. Not to be afraid of sharing ideas and feelings. It important to create the environment to live in, it's the space who feel warm and comfortable in.
We found a great apartment at Bathurst and Dupont. I'm excited to be more central and close to everything again. Moving back to Dufferin and Dupont is was great, but I realized the downfalls of the area. Sketchy people, and a good 40min walk to anything. Since my bike was stolen in the fall, and its winter I am driving more often which I dislike, and defiantly on the hunt for a bike, and can't wait for spring to long board more. The new apartment has a such a personality, and great features. Wood beams, exposed bricks, a porch, big kitchen, big bathroom, and two living areas/den. Only downfall is that is had carpet, but oh well. Always have to compromise somewhere. Can't get everything you want, have to practice acceptance.
The space works out perfectly because Fontane wants to work more at home and have a great place to practice yoga and meditation. So we will have an office/studio space, and then a big comfy area as the living room/dinning room. We sign the lease this week, decided to give it a fresh coat of paint as the landlord is going to pay for the paint. We probably won't do the whole place, but just freshen it up with a new coat of paint. It feels great to be cultivating home of practice with someone you know can support your, and you can share with.
